Equipment and Power Management Program

Program Overview
Key activities include development of monitoring, analysis and optimisation methods that increase the availability and utilisation of equipment and the overall energy efficiency and reliability of mining systems. The outputs will be: an online energy and reliability database, life cycle cost and emission models, longwall monitoring and diagnostic systems, dutymeters for large electric motors, power controllers for unstable and distributed generation systems, and an equipment-management short-course. The first four outputs will be developed with, and delivered directly to, the Centre’s mining company members and the fifth by an SME.

Emissions reduction will be achieved through reliable operations that consume less energy per unit output because greater utilisation is made of services and downstream processes, and optimal change-out of worn components reduces energy.
